Did you know that the most effective way to manage

Did you know that the most effective way to manage salinity is to prevent it from entering the rivers in the first place.

This is done by:

1. Improving farming and irrigation practices to prevent extra salt from seeping or washing into the rivers
2. Operating salt interception schemes

Salt interception schemes involve pumps that divert groundwater away from rivers and into evaporating basins.

Fourteen of these have been installed at locations in the Murray-Darling Basin where water in the soil (groundwater) is particularly high in salt.

We're proud to be the only operator harvesting Australia's only naturally pink salt and assisting in the combat against salinity for our future generations.

The Murray Darling Basin was once home to an ancient inland ocean that flourished millions of years ago. Ocean sediments, the weathering of rocks and rainfall over millions of years had made it into what it is today.

As salinity occurs naturally in groundwater, the Murray Darling Basin’s groundwater systems hold more than 100,000 tonnes of salt! Sounds like a lot doesn't it...

Over time, if not managed properly, salinity degrades water quality, hinders plant growth, reduces biodiversity and agricultural productivity and means poor quality water is available for human consumption.
