Meet the Family
Murray River Salt® is a proud, family owned and operated Australian small business. Duncan and Jan began their salty journey back in 1983 when they founded SunSalt, producing salt from the underground saline water at Hattah in North West Victoria.
The ancient inland concentrated brine found within the Mourquong Mitigation Basin is recognised for its purity and mineral content. This pristine saline water source has been trapped underground for thousands of years and has not been exposed to the elements until it is pumped up for salt production.
Murray River Salt® is proudly 100% Australian owned company. All Murray River Salt® products are produced in the Mildura region. Over 25 people work across our three work sites. Over the past 15 years, Murray River Salt® has won an array of awards and is now recognised as an iconic Australian gourmet food product.
Salt is a mineral composed primarily of sodium chloride (NaCl), a chemical compound belonging to the larger class of SALTS. In its natural form, salt as a crystalline mineral known as rock salt or halite. Salt is present in vast quantities in seawater – both in the open oceans and inland ground water – where it is the main mineral constituent.
