Murray River Salt set to shine on Master Chef

Mildura is set to shine in an upcoming episode of MasterChef Australia.  The iconic cooking show commenced its latest series on Network TEN on May the 1st.  Next week will see the much anticipated “Heston Week” episodes, with high profile UK chef Heston Blumenthal travelling with contestants on a weeklong road trip across Victoria with the Mildura episode going to air next Tuesday June 20.

Securing an episode for Mildura was made possible through the strong relationship Murray River Salt has had with MasterChef, as a supplier, since the shows inception nine years ago. MasterChef is Australia’s premier cooking competition, with an audience of 1.2 million people nightly in Australia and airing in more than 150 countries.  Murray River Salt along with their partners recognised this was a golden opportunity to promote the region which will achieve economic and tourism benefits, establishing the region as a “foodie” destination.

Filming in February saw more than 100 film crew come into town for four nights with many local businesses benefiting.  The episode was predominantly filmed at Murray River Salt’s harvest site at Mourquong.

Respected MasterChef judges Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Matt Preston were highly impressed with the region.  Matt Preston, said: “I feel like I’m in the outback but haven’t had to travel thousands of kilometres”.

Executive Producer Marty Benson said: “Filming in such a spectacular setting on the salt flats was incredible, and we’re really excited with how our contestants cooked. We can’t wait to share this experience with viewers.”
